Christmas, Concert Hall, Sinfonia Viva and more...

January 9, 2018

I haven't Blogged for a while, being Christmas and all that. On that note I hope everybody has had a wonderful Christmas and New Year and got a little time to spend with family and friends and generally relax!

For me its a bit of a busy time. I was doing plenty of singing in concerts as well as private functions with my lovely singing partner Hilary Leam and our little duo 'Double Time'. Also a lovely concert in the beautiful setting of Endsor in Chatsworth alongside some lovely friends and great performers for the wonderfully talented Mr Jonathan Francis (who is putting those wonderful talents to use orchestrating my album!)

I had a wonderful opportunity to sing at BBC Radio Derbys Christmas Carol Concert held at the Derby Cathedral, which I thoroughly enjoyed singing at. The acoustics were fantastic and singing   'O Holy Night' and 'Bring Him Home' were perfectly fitting songs for the occasion and venue.

The week after I was asked to spend the breakfast show with Ian Skye singing a selection of Christmas Songs which was a great morning (although who likes singing at 8am??? ) Radio Derby really have been fantastic in their support and opportunities for me this last year or so.

On top of singing I was also working around the Christmas and New Year period, coming off nights for New Years Eve before tackling the long awaited New Years Eve concert to a packed Nottingham Royal Concert Hall alongside the amazing Sinfonia Viva Orchestra.

So on that note, how was it? Well it was a dream experience for sure. Getting the opportunity to perform in the largest venue in your home town where you have seen so many shows and concerts before is a great and proud feeling indeed. On top of that it was a complete sellout too which makes it even better!

The company were wonderfully accommodating and made me feel extremely welcome. To add to that, the sound from the huge orchestra (I'm sure somebody said 75 of them!) was astounding and they played to perfection. Nicholas Kok conducting was not only pure brilliance but a lovely gentleman who had the audience in the palm of his hands. I sung a couple of big musical numbers. Younger than Springtime from South Pacific  and Anthem from Chess, as well as an arranged version of Always on My Mind and Georgia on my mind. The audience where wonderfully supportive and even though its not something I am accustomed to being from the world of theatre I was reluctantly dragged back on stage for another bow by the audience and conductor (half undressed I might add as I was heading back to the dressing room!)

I would like to mention the young man who played the Cello Sheku Kanneh - Mason who won the 2016 BBC young musician of the year. He is incredibly gifted and is already going places.

So thanks again for letting me be a part of it. Hopefully if things go to plan there may be the chance that I will be back again next year with the other possibility of singing at the Darley Proms at the end of summer which would be fantastic indeed.

So my little holiday rest began at around 20:30 hours on NYE when I got to spend a few days with my lovely girls before going back to work again, and now its back to getting this album finished this month and organising the concert at the end of it all.

All focus is on getting it all done in the next couple of months before I then start preparing for child number three to enter the household! Yes, for those that don't know, the lovely Mrs Quinn is expecting again and after a few years of calm the house will be in turmoil for a few more years.

Take care everybody and thanks for reading.
